Splash pages and pop ups are old school
Don’t use splash screens! Splash screens will increase your site’s bounce rate, as surfers will often click back once they are greeted with a Splash screen. Focus on giving genuine information that meets the surfer needs and you will have more visitors to your site.
Excessive banner advertisement
Its called banner blindness - people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements. This is why banner click through rate is less than 1%! Don't waste valuable website space to detract browsers, focus on getting them to do what you want them to do: contact your company, request a quote or fill in a form.
Keep it simple and focussed
A browser should know what your website is about in 3 seconds or less. Provide a clear and easy to use navigation system so that even an inexperienced browser will manage. If your browsers cannot find what they are looking for in a convoluted navigation structure they will leave your site.
Auto play audio and video
People get irritated by audio while browsing through many sites and then have some unwanted audio automatically play in the background. Don’t set your videos or audio feeds to auto play as this can be a significant irritation to browsers. Having video and audio on your site can be a huge benefit if implemented correctly.
